In a 1976 poll 72% of Americans said their trust in the media was “a great deal” of trust, with 24% trusting media “a fair amount” and only 6% with trust levels of “none at all.” The same poll in 2023 found only 32% have “a great deal” of trust in the media, with 29% at “a fair amount” and 39% with “none at all.” That’s a huge shift in public opinion – that we’re not supposed to have. Government is constantly telling us not to distrust them, and the media often reminds us how harmful it is to believe in conspiracy theories. Remember, the only valid opinions are the ones THEY give you!
The superb economist and social analyst Martin Armstrong recently wrote in Mainstream News is Committing Suicide that “Virtually everyone I talk to thinks mainstream news is just propaganda. COVID drove a spike through the very heart and soul of the First Amendment. Even five years before, people generally respected the news. COVID appears to have been the death knell to mainstream news. This chart shows the results of Gallup Polls, and the trust in American media is down well below 40%. Our models warn that when confidence in government falls below 40%, governments begin to collapse. That magic number applies to the media as well.”
Noam Chomsky once said: “The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum – even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there’s free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate.”
Most people will never even notice that the official narrative constrains acceptable thought on a topic not just by promoting one way of thinking but by through controlled opposition so that even the argument against the viewpoint they accept is controlled. An anonymous writer I like said under a pseudonym: “people often confuse the path of least resistance with being a choice of their free will, when in reality it never was.” Your world is designed to make sure you aren’t encouraged to ask many questions.
For the few that realize they are being lied to about everything, all the time….
There are only a few remaining choices. You can’t drink the Kool-Aid and keep believing the official nonsense. You can either give up on all sources of information and assume everything is or at least could be a lie…. or you can head down the rabbit hole to research whether an idea is truth or just conspiracy theory – and only hard work (yours, or someone else’s like a truly independent reporter or author) can clarify the answer.
