In response to: “Why is there such a large obsession with end times recently?”
Of course there was Harold Camping making silly claims in 2011, the misinterpretation of the Mayan Long Count ending in December 2012, apocalyptic movies like 2012, Noah, Left Behind... there are plagues and wars and rumors of wars... all of this bombards people with messages of end times expectations.
A few months ago I posted this on Reddit in response to: “Why is there such a large obsession with end times recently?” Ever since some unusual childhood experiences that made me consider the real possibility of ESP and psychic phenomenon, I have been interested in the alleged ability to see the future. Nostradamus and Bible prophecy might be the two most publicized 'categories' of prophecy, and I have been interested enough do serious research and write a few books on these topics. I conclude that some prophecies have been specific and accurately fulfilled. I also noticed that many descriptions of the night sky are given with prophetic visions, often detailing the various positions of the sun, moon, and planets at the time of a future vision/event. I used astronomical software to correlate these descriptions with dates when such descriptions are accurate portrayals of future skies - and I believe I have pinpointed many specific events from end times prophecy in the near future (just a few more years - I could be specific but then you would find my titles and I'd be accused of trolling here for sales.)
Since I have no problem with that here on my own blog, I will emphasize my recent book: Antichrist 2016-2019
and of course my previous book on some related topics: End Times and 2019
. Since we were told throughout the Bible that more will be revealed as we approach the end, it doesn't surprise me that technology only made it possible to calculate such things through forensic astronomy shortly before the end times. I think I'm on target but most people think the whole concept is crazy. Of the religious people who believe the events will happen, most think no one can calculate the timing. Isaac Newton understood that it could be calculated; he understood the astronomical clues and had 4,500 pages of notes narrowing his calculations down to the 21st century. But he never finished; he never reached specific dates for events, and his treatise on the Books of Daniel and Revelation was published after he died without a detailed conclusion. So we can thank him for inventing calculus and contributing to astronomy but few people know he was obsessed with the end times. If he had the software I have access to, I think he would have come to the same conclusions I do. I think the timing is SOON. So if the original question is "Why is there such a large obsession with end times recently?" I think the interest level is high because the signs people expect as pre-conditions are obvious. The gospel has been spread to the world, Israel has been re-created (almost to the day, as predicted thousands of years earlier) Jerusalem was reunited under Israeli rule (on schedule, as predicted) there are wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, plagues, and technologies that could implement a 'mark of the beast' ID system... those who are watching see the signs they are watching for - more completely than ever before. And I say this as a serious author and researcher who was not raised as a Christian - I conclude that those expecting the biblical end times prophecies to be fulfilled soon are correct.
