One Christian friend of mine recently said, "I knew many years ago that by the end times America would treat Israel as an enemy and treat Iran as a friend.  That's what Bible prophecy tells us.  I just didn't understand how we were going to get there - what would change America's diplomacy to shift in that direction.  And it's just happened, with no events to justify it at all."

One reason is that voters are uninformed - ask people who they want as president and they're enthusiastic supporters - ask them for their main reason why and they don't know anything about the candidate.  So any lying fraud can get elected if they know how to massage public opinion.
