On this date in 1918, the precursors to the Communists of the soon to form Soviet Union executed their royal family, all of whom had been taken prisoner some months earlier.
Just a thought: if Germany had won the First World War by early 1918, although America would have lost or not been involved at all, and Germany would have been the new superpower - the world could have avoided both Communism and Nazism and the Holocaust; arguably responsible for 50-100 million deaths (or more.)
