I often write about a periodic cycle of pole shift catastrophes that alter the entire surface of the Earth and reduce civilizations to ruins every 12-13,000 years (probably every half-precession cycle of about 12,900 years.) But many researchers, including Graham Hancock, suggest that this (last) catastrophe roughly 12,800 years ago was caused by a comet impact - not a pole shift.
