For a myriad of reasons, literature is dead. The human brain is literally being altered by technology to strongly prefer information that comes and goes quickly. Our attention span and powers of concentration are being systematically lowered - rewired for a faster pace - first by action movies and video games, then internet pornography and the ease of getting legal mind altering drugs made things even worse. The dopamine fix has to happen fast, or interest is lost.
