I have been pointing this out in my books for 15 years: the age of the aircraft carrier has passed, yet America still relies on it as the backbone of its military strength. They still work well against minor powers, but even in attacks on small countries, carriers have to be kept further and further out to sea as anti-ship cruise missile technology improves and cheapens.
